This report provides a socioeconomic profile of recreation users in California’s Northern Central Coast Region, which includes the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) and the northern portion of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS). The socioeconomic profiles of this report include demographics (e.g. age, race/ethnicity, gender, education level, household income, household size, and place of residence) of the users; the amount of use by type of recreation activity; and the spending in the local economy while doing the recreation activity, and how that spending generates output/sales, value-added, income and employment in the local economy.
Introduction
As part of the Socioeconomic Research and Monitoring Program for GFNMS, this report supports priorities to document connections between sanctuary resource uses and local, regional and national economies. Using existing data collected by Point 97, this report addresses the economic impact of non-consumptive use on local county economies reports the types of activities that users of the sanctuary are completing.

Chapter 2: Demographic Profiles of Users – Who are the users?
Chapter 2 presents the demographic profiles of the users. This includes information about the age, race/ethnicity, gender, education level, household income, household size, and place of residence of users along the North Central Coast and within GFNMS and the northern portion of MBNMS.
Chapter 3: Recreational Use – What are users doing?
Chapter 3 analyzes the activities users are participating in along the coast. The number of person-days by activity level and location are presented, as are maps that show the spatial intensity of use by activity or activity groups along the coast.

Chapter 4: Recreation Expenditure Profiles
Chapter 4 estimates the expenditure profiles of visitors to California’s North Central Coast, GFNMS and the northern portion of MBNMS. The expenditure profiles are based on the reported expenditures of visitors by expenditures type , such as gasoline, lodging or food.
Chapter 5: Economic Impact/Contribution to Local Economy
Chapter 5 presents the results of the IMPLAN model. These results include total output, value added, income and employment (measured in number of full and part-time jobs) resulting from recreational activities along the North Central Coast and within Greater Farallones and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuaries. Results are estimated by location.
