Accessibility Guide Volunteer Internship
The National Marine Sanctuary System is seeking a volunteer intern, preferably a senior undergrad or graduate student, with exceptional research and writing skills to help prepare a first ever Sanctuaries Accessibility Guide, providing information on the accessibility of sanctuary visitor centers, beaches, shore-side and water-based recreation, sports, and other opportunities for the fourteen sites of the sanctuary system (sanctuaries.noaa.gov/).
This guide will help provide information to help ensure all Americans, including those with disabilities, are aware of recreational and educational opportunities related to the Nation's premier ocean park network. We hope to release the guide in October 2018, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and will accept applications on a rolling basis for the semesters leading up to then; more than one intern at a time may work on the guide.
Major Responsibilities:
- Preparing an outline of the Sanctuaries Accessibility Guide
- Conducting interviews with sanctuary staff to gather information
- Conducting research on and verifying available accessibility resources (understanding that nearly all resources will be owned and/or managed by other government authorities)
- Writing the guide, in cooperation with others as necessary
Desired Qualifications:
- Exceptional writing skills are a must
- Strong research skills are a must
- Motivated self-starter who enjoys both working independently and collaboration
Please contact Elizabeth Moore at elizabeth.moore@noaa.gov for any questions. If interested in the internship, please send a cover letter, writing sample of a non-technical nature (i.e., for a public audience) and resume to Liz at the email address above.
