The Commerce Departments National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations (NOAA) Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (HIHWNMS) today announced that Patty Miller has been named Maui program coordinator.
Patty has a long standing commitment to providing education about the marine environment to students in Hawaii, said HIHWNMS Manager Naomi McIntosh. We are so pleased that she has chosen to continue sharing her passion as an educator working with the sanctuary.
As the HIHWNMS Maui Program Coordinator, Miller will oversee the operations of the Maui site and the development and implementation of education and outreach programs. She will be located in the sanctuarys Kihei office.
Previously, Miller served as a state resource teacher for the Hawaii Department of Education where she worked with many state agencies to develop interactive science curricula that were delivered live via television into classrooms both in Hawaii and across the nation. She has a long history with HIHWNMS, having served for seven years as the education representative to the sanctuarys advisory council.
HIWHNMS is administered by a partnership of NOAA's National Marine Sanctuary Program and the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The Commerce Department's NOAA is dedicated to enhancing economic security and national safety through the prediction and research of weather and climate-related events and providing environmental stewardship of our nation's coastal and marine resources.
